Certain pay rates in the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (“SCHADS Award”) increased from the first full pay period after 1 December 2019.
The SCHADS Award is subject to an “Equal Remuneration Order” made by the Fair Work Commission, that means that the Award is subject to pay increases each December (until 2020) as well as increases on 1 July 2019. The December increases apply to the “social and community services stream” and the “crisis accommodation stream”, under the Award.
The Equal Remuneration Order was initially made to help ensure that women and men doing comparative work receive equal pay. Given many employees employed under the SCHADS Award are female, the Order increases the rates of pay under the Award in line with other industries where the majority of employees are men.
