โWhen it comes to payroll, the Australian Legislation can be extremely challenging with major consequences for getting it wrong. We feel more comfortable having the backup of Employment Innovations and EI Legal as we get the support from an entire team for less than the cost of 1 person. If it was not for them we would have to employ our own headcountโ
BACKGROUND
The Lionetti Group is a family run business in Perth that owns and operates a chain of IGA supermarkets employing about 100 staff. The group had also purchased a local restaurant (Due South) which had a mixture of casual and full-time employees. Lionetti Group have been using the outsourced employment services of Employment Innovations since 2016, a solution where casual employees are hired and paid by EI thus saving Lionetti the time and cost of HR administration across a casual workforce.
CHALLENGE
A large casual workforce generated challenges when building rosters to meet the minimum contracted hours of employment while limiting increased wage costs from paying overtime. Operating under two different Enterprise Agreements, Lionetti Group required support in understanding the impact of any legislation updates against the employment decision being made against the agreements in place.
SOLUTION
Employment Innovations continued to provide a complete outsourced employment service holding responsibility for the hiring and payment of all casual employees. They implemented biometric timesheeting which provided a more accurate and streamlined process for rostering staff against the applicable EAs. The local WA HR Partner was able to access the support of EI Legal and the wider advisory team to inform and recommend updates against legislation changes while ensuring that any HR decisions made remained within the requirements of the Enterprise Agreements that were in place.
RESULT
Jo and The Lionetti Group were able to focus on running their businesses with the confidence that the casual workforce was being managed by a third party and that wage overheads were being kept at a minimum. The support of a wider advisory and legal team ensured that the business always made compliant decisions that were in the best interest of employees.
