BACKGROUND

The Mullaloo Beach Hotel (MBH) is a popular bar and accommodation destination in Perth whose function staff increase from about 40 in the winter months to over 100 in the summer. The MBH has been using Employment Innovations since 2014 for the outsourcing of its casual staff and for HR advice on the Awards applicable to their employees. Timesheeting is a big part of payroll for casual staff and the MBH was looking to move beyond the paper-based process they had in place.

CHALLENGE

As the MBH had been using Employment Innovations since 2014 for the outsourced employment of its casual staff there was an established operating rhythm and high level of trust. With a long history it was important that the solution proposed worked for Michelle and The MBH while supporting the ongoing outsourced employment model in place.

SOLUTION

The team worked with Michelle to implement a new biometric system for staff to log in and out of shifts which completely replaced the requirement for paper-based timesheeting. The system was supported by the local EI Advisory team who were able to ensure all casual staff provided as labour on demand were trained on the technology. The HR advisory team continued to provide on-demand advice and training on the employment requirements under the Awards that The MBH staff operated under.

RESULT

Employment Innovations continued to provide the on-demand labour and streamlined staff on-boarding for The MBH. The new biometric technology dramatically improved the accuracy of the time sheeting allowing for an improvement in approval and payroll processing.
