Goal Setting & Strategic HR Planning

Hi Iโ€™m Alana from Employment Innovations and Iโ€™m here to give you an introduction to Principle 7 of our 8 Lean HR Principles.

 

Principle 7 is about setting goals across the business, including HR, that are aligned with company objectives.

Goal setting at a business level helps set direction, maintain benchmarks, and ensure a shared understanding across the business. A cascading rhythm of setting goals that are aligned with your companyโ€™s overarching objectives, make it easier for staff and leadership to work towards measurable and achievable results.ย 

This same approach should be applied to the HR function. Here at EI, we are working with companies to discover what incremental improvements we could be making at a HR level that will help the company achieve its goals.

You can get quite complicated with your goal setting structure, there are plenty out there, but there is research to say that even the slightest adoption of a goal setting methodology can increase an employeeโ€™s performance and productivity. You can go as far as implementing formalised goal setting methodologies such as OKRs or keep it as simple as cascading goals.
